Dr Hannah Lloyd-King - Founder and Owner

I was introduced to Pilates in 1996 by Alan Herdman (who brought Pilates to the UK) as part of my Ballet training.  I have studied Pilates ever since, realising tremendous benefits to my dancing and my body.  I was at a point in my dance training where I felt I had reached my peak, but Pilates enabled me to progress further with my dance technique.

Aside from my love of Ballet, I have always had a great interest in the human body, and how it works. This interest led to me studying Medicine at University and I have worked as a Doctor in conventional Medicine for over six years.  At present I am not practising clinical Medicine, so I can concentrate further on my Pilates training, and put my medical knowledge to use helping train the next generation of body aware Pilates teachers.

During my six years of Medical work I have seen in patients the benefits of complementary therapies, and how Pilates has helped a number of people who have suffered from certain types of back pain and other musculoskeletal problems.

This experience, coupled with consultations with Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors has convinced me that Pilates is not just for dancers and elite sportsmen and women, but is a technique with a significant role in injury prevention and restoring the body back to balance post-injury.

With this in mind, I went on to train intensively in Pilates in order to become a Pilates teacher with the Pilates Foundation.  I achieved 91% in my Pilates Foundation Matwork exam, taken January 2009.  I then went on to study for the Pilates Foundation Apparatus exam, which I completed in July 2010, achieving over 90% in the practical examinations.  I offer both machine and matwork classes, privately or in small groups.

I continue to further my knowledge of the human body, by undertaking regular CPD courses with the Pilates Foundation.
